Life Experience
Gary brings a wealth of life experience to his
coaching. He was raised in a rural farming community and has lived
in major cities and suburbia as an adult. He has lived in northern
Virginia, western Maryland, Florida Space Coast, Chesapeake Bay
region, Pennsylvania, Chicago, Philadelphia and southern New Jersey.
After a successful engineering career, Gary moved
into the business world. His interests in the issues facing
corporations had grown stronger than his interest in electronics.
As a management consultant and business executive, he
found himself focusing on how the life experience and preconceptions
of executives and employees were affecting the departments and
initiatives for which he was responsible.
Faced with a rapidly growing department, Gary started
using coaching techniques in the 1990’s. He used them with
those of his employees who showed an eagerness to empower themselves
and expand their responsibilities.
Gary's interest in coaching soared as he saw how
beneficial the techniques could be when used with self-motivated
staff. Many quickly developed the necessary skills to operate
independently and as managers.
Consequently, Gary assumed the role of manager coach
and employed many self-managing teams internally and at client
sites. As a full-time coach, Gary enjoys seeing the impact of
coaching on his clients’ lives and businesses.
Gary has been a VP and corporate officer for a
mid-market enterprise and head of the Americas’ services
organization for an international software package vendor.
During the 1980's he
built a regionally-based leading-edge technology consulting
organization for a major business consulting firm. Prior to
that, Gary worked as a
project engineer in the communications and aerospace industries
where his creative thinking skills were used on highly custom
leading-edge projects.
For many years, Gary personally experienced the
challenges of being a road warrior and balancing his
responsibilities as a member of a two-career family. He has dealt
with the problems of aging parents and experienced the loss of
parents and close family members. His world and cultural perspective is broadened by his
travel in nearly every state and in 35 countries on four continents.
